The System Center Configuration Manager team of Microsoft released a couple of “How Do I?” videos during MMS 2011 and placed them online. These “How Do I?” video’s can be used to get familiar and to get started with the Beta2 of SCCM 2012. A very good initiative if you ask me. See the videos here!

At this moment 6 videos are placed online about the following subjects:

  • Role Based Administration (1)
  • Software Update Management (3)
  • Software Distribution (2)

The Beta2 version of SCCM 2012 can be downloaded at the connect site.  Subscribe to the System Center Configuration Manager videos RSS feed if you want to see it there are added new videos online.

A week full of the Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas learned me that this is the event of the year to attend for people that work daily with products from the System Center Suite. This is the only event in the world where the most engineers and product/program managers are together and available to answer your questions and to give feedback to about the System Center products. More than 4000 people from all over the world attended more than 157 technical System Center related sessions presented by Microsoft, MVP’s or partners of Microsoft. During the 2 Keynotes this week some nice announcements were made about the future of the System Center products.  Read more

Day three of the Management Summit started again with a Keynote of Brad Anderson, vice president of Microsoft. The Keynote was about “You. Empowered to Embrace Consumerization”, how the user can get access to their application. It doesn’t matter if the application is used on the “primary device”, a non trusted workstation or a VDI Desktop delivered by XenDesktop and Hyper-V (with dynamic memory). For SCCM 2012 can handle all deployment types go give the user very where the same application. During the same keynote, the public release of Beta2 of System Center Configuration Manager was announced.

One of the nicest features in System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3 is the capability of deploying Operating Systems (OS). You are able to deploy several different versions of the Windows OS. From Windows XP to Windows 7 and from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008R2. While planning for the deployment of an OS, we can address the following scenarios:

  • New Computer scenario (bare metal)

A new computer right out of the box without any OS on it
  • Replace Computer scenario

An old computer will be replicaed by a new computer right out of the box without any OS on it. All settings and documents will be transferred from the old computer to the new computer.
  • Refresh Computer scenario

An Operating System needs to be reinstalled or replaced by a new OS. This scenario can be used for the migration of Windows XP to Windows 7 SP1.

In this movie I would like to show the New Computer Scenario in a Zero-touch way. To be able to build this scenario we brought the following products together:

  • Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2010 update 1
  • Windows Deployment Services
  • System Center Configuration Manager 2007-R3
  • Microsoft App-v 4.6

If you would like to have more information about OS Deployments, please don’t hesitate to drop us a line!

Next week I will be attending the Microsoft Management Summit, the place to be if you work with or manage System Center products. Today the round 2 of the Community Evaluation Program for System Center Configuration Manager 2012 started again with the overview. The first run of the sessions was based on the beta 1 version, the round 2 will be based on the beta 2 version of SCCM 2012.

To keep all the members of the CEP interested, the setup of the sessions will be changed. In the first half of the session Jeff Wettlaufer will interview one of the engineers of the Configuration Manager team and highlight the changes in the beta 2 version. The second half of the session will be the slide deck, questions and demos. This session is still in the old format.
