appv5-01It has been a while since I wrote about my top 10 new features of ConfigMgr 2012 Service Pack 1. Have been busy with setting up our new User Group (WMUG NL), preparing presentations, writing other blogs and contributing to the upcoming book of Kent Agerlund (System Center 2012 SP1 Configuration Manager: Mastering the Fundamentals). Busy times between working and all other hobbies ;) Let’s finish this blog series with my number 10 in the list of new features, the support of App-V 5.0. With R2 coming up lot’s of new features can be added to a new top 10, so stay tuned ;)

Windows-Intune-3As an Enterprise Client Manager you need to of course use the Windows Intune integration in Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 to be able to manage also your mobile devices next to all other Windows, Unix, Linux and MAC OS-X devices.

When setting up Dirsync to synchronize the active directory account to Windows Azure Active Directory, you need to configure the administrator account to get access to this service. After 90 days the password of this account will expire by default and the synchronization will fail since you need to change the password.

maxresults-01When pressing on the Values box in the Query builder while creating a Collection in ConfigMgr you might run into an error that states that “The operation has completed successfully, but the information list has been truncated to the maximum configured count of 2000 items.” For SMS 2.0 and ConfigMgr 2007 there was a registry key that you were able to configure to see more items.

Error connecting to the Primary Site

Error connecting to the Primary Site

When using a service account to run for instance my “cleaning ConfigMgr” Powershell script you may run in to an error. When trying to access the Windows PowerShell drive that is mapped to your Primary Site you will receive the following error: “set-location : Cannot find drive. A drive with the name <primary site> does not exist.” (see figure on the left) I see the same behavior when for instance running a Powershell script from System Center Orchestrator 2012 to change settings in Configuration Manager 2012 SP1.

20130425-powershellscriptToday I released a new version of the “Cleanup in AD deleted devices via Powershell in ConfigMgr 2012 SP1” script that was originally released in March of this year. In this new version the following is changed:

                  • Ability to set the Maximum Query Result Size of ConfigMgr 2012 SP1, by default this is 1000 items
                  • Fixed little bug while searching in AD for objects give back a number higher than 1. (more AD objects with the same name)

You are able to download the new script here in the Microsoft TechNet Gallery. Please let me know what you think of the script. I have some ideas to extend the script in the future, so stay tuned.

migrationsp1-aIn the past I wrote a lot of blogs about the Migration Feature, new in Service Pack 1 is the ability to migrate Configuration Manager objects between two Configuration Manager 2012 SP1 sites. cas-01I think this could be one of the most requested features for Service Pack 1, namely the ability to add a Central Administration Site (CAS) to your Configuration Manager 2012 hierarchy. In my series about the top 10 nicest new features we are going to look how adding a CAS looks like and when you should add a CAS to your hierarchy.

Adding a CAS will be a rare action though, but it is nice that the ability to add a CAS to a stand-alone primary site is added to Configuration Manager 2012 Service Pack 1.
